As your
Metro Councillor, I voted for the Sheppard Subway line.
A few years ago the province created an agency – Metrolinx –
to plan and fund public transit across the GTA. Metrolinx asked
the cities of
Toronto
and
Hamilton
as well as the regional governments of
York
,
Durham
, Peel and Halton to submit their
transportation “wish lists”.
These submissions were then put through a business case
analysis.
As a result, as a part of the City’s transit plan, the
extension of the Sheppard subway was converted to a LRT.
I fought for the subway.
In
Toronto
’s official plan, the Scarborough Town
Centre is the “hub” of the City’s east end. To support the
centre as the hub, the subway, LRT, and bus lines were to
radiate in and out of it like the spokes of a wheel not pass it
by as the proposed LRT does.
As the Chair of the Scarborough Community Centre (SCC), I made
sure that the SCC supported transit city with the subway option.
Unfortunately, this opinion did not survive.
I’m presently working with residents who support all the
transit city LRT initiatives in
Scarborough
except for the Sheppard line. It’s a long
shot but worth the try.
There’s been one small victory. The TTC has promised to send a
spur line down
McCowan Road
to the Town Centre.
If you want more information on this study – with the date and
time of the
final public meeting – please contact my office or

It’s a window into your future.
