The Corinthian Community  


It's boundaries are:
Finch Avenue to Sheppard Avenue ; Victoria Park Avenue to Pharmacy Avenue.

It's original name was L'Amoreaux, which surfaced in 1854 with the establishment of a post office at Victoria Park and Finch. This name lives on in L'Amoreaux Collegiate on Bridletowne Circle.

The Schools in this community are: Sir John A. MacDonald Collegiate, nick named "MAC", and JB Tyrrell Sr. Public School on Pharmacy Avenue just south of Corinthian Boulevard , with Fairglen Jr. Public School to their south. The area park is called Fairglen Park and runs behind Tyrell and MAC.

The Corinthian Community displays a full range of housing styles, from large singles to semi-detached, townhouses and rental and condominium apartment buildings.

There are 3 areas of construction activity: The conversion of small homes on Fairglen to B-I-G ones; houses ranging up to $959,000 on the Leafield extension; and a new 20 storey rental apartment building on Sheppard at Chichester and a 14 storey condo on the north west corner of Sheppard and Pharmacy.  
 

Sir John A. MacDonald Collegiate Institute

Sir John A. Macdonald Collegiate has a 35-year history of excellence. The school maintains high expectations in its students in a learning environment where academic, athletic and artistic excellence is stressed. It also boasts one of the best music departments in the school system. It's teams are called the Black Scots. Sir John A. MacDonald Collegiate Institute is located at the heart of the Corinthian community, right beside Fairglen Park and JB Tyrell Sr. Public school. It was built in 1963. It goes from grades 9-12, with a population of 1358. The Principal is Tim Sim who can be contacted during the school term at 416-396-6793.

10 Chichester Place

A 20 storey, 210 unit apartment building has been approved for construction on this site on Sheppard at the corner opposite Commons Dr .  The developer has received federal infrastructure funding in the amount of $25,200,000 to provide affordable housing for low income seniors and the disabled.  This building is not being built by or for the Toronto Community Housing Authority.  Rents in this building will be calculated at 80% of market rent.  A 1-bedroom will rent for $742 and a 2-bedroom will rent for $884.  For more information, please call me or, if you wish, you can all the Affordable Housing Office at 392-0602.

The two residential lots with their tiny houses will soon be history.  An application has been submitted with a proposal for a 14 storey, 142 unit, residential condominium apartment building with ground floor retail uses and four levels of underground parking.

   Fairglen Park is a huge community park. Lots of soccer played here.
