This
is a long, narrow strip of industrial land – 800 hectares in
total – stretching from the
Don River
in the west to Coxwell in
the east, most of it south of the Gardiner.
It’s
redevelopment lagged as governments debated the essential nature
of the redevelopment. Some wanted it to be recreational. Others,
residential. And, still others, commercial.
In the end, it’ll be a mix of all 3.
Three governments are funding the 25 year redevelopment plan –
the city, province, and the feds – at a cost of $30 billion
dollars.

In the
end, the city will have added a stylish mix of uses that will
attract people and money from all over the world and/or – just
as importantly– keep people and money from roaming elsewhere.
