City Hall

A Councillor’s Job

Being a City Councillor is one of those busy 24/7 jobs.

A visiting primary school student on a city hall tour once asked me what I spent most of my time doing. Upon reflection, I replied: “
Reading
”.

Besides sitting on Council, I sit on 13 agencies, boards, and commissions. As a result, as you can see by the photo, I do a lot of reading.

Every month, I’m called on to vote on 100’s of items from the biggest to the smallest. Over 12 months, I will have reviewed and voted on thousands of issues.

I try to cast an informed vote.

I listen closely to my constituents.

I seek out the opinion of people more expert than myself. And I draw on my own veteran experience.

Here’s a sampling of the major challenges faced by Councillors at City Hall and my responses to them.

-        Toronto Waterfront Revitalization
-        Island Airport
-         Economic Prosperity
-         Climate Change
-         Homelessness
-         City Pins
-         Apartment Standards
